Search Engine Positioning: How Local Booking Businesses Move Up
25 April 2024 · by Find2Digital
Search engine positioning means where your pages appear in the results for the searches that matter to you. For a local business, the difference between position three and position eleven is the difference between being considered and being invisible, because very few people look past the first page.
Start with the pages that are nearly there
The quickest gains rarely come from new pages. They come from pages that already appear on the first or second page but just below the strongest results. In Google Search Console, the free tool Google provides to site owners, you can see which searches your pages appear for and their average position. Pages sitting roughly between positions five and fifteen are your best candidates.
Make each page answer the search completely
Look at the search you want to win and ask what the person really needs. Someone searching "deep tissue massage price" wants to see prices, duration and how to book. Someone searching "hotel near the station with breakfast" wants to know the walking distance and whether breakfast is included. Add those details plainly, near the top of the page, and remove anything that gets in the way.
Use clear titles and descriptions
The page title and meta description are often the first thing a searcher reads. A title such as "Deep Tissue Massage in Leeds | 60 and 90 Minutes | Book Online" says more than "Services". Write for the person scanning the results, not only for the search engine.
Link your own pages together
Internal links, the links from one page of your site to another, tell search engines which pages matter most. Link from your home page and popular pages to the services you most want to promote, using descriptive words rather than "click here".
Strengthen your local signals
- Keep your Google Business Profile complete: categories, opening hours, photos and a link to your booking page.
- Make sure your business name, address and phone number match everywhere they appear online.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and reply to them, including the critical ones.
Take up more space on the results page
Positioning is not only about the blue links. Your Business Profile can appear in the map results, and structured data on your website can help search engines show extra details such as opening hours or price ranges. Each of these gives searchers another reason to choose you.
Measure, then repeat
After improving a page, give it a few weeks and check its position and clicks again in Search Console. Keep what works and move on to the next page. Steady, page-by-page improvement beats any one-off overhaul. Read which SEO metrics to track to see how to judge your progress.
