SEO Metrics: How to Tell If Your Website Is Bringing in Bookings
21 April 2024 · by Find2Digital
It is easy to measure the wrong things in SEO. A page can rank well for a search nobody makes, or attract visitors who never book. For a booking business, the useful question is simple: is search bringing in customers? These metrics help you answer it.
Impressions: are you being seen?
Impressions, shown in Google Search Console, count how often your pages appeared in search results. Rising impressions for searches related to your services mean search engines increasingly see your pages as relevant.
Clicks and click-through rate: are people choosing you?
Clicks show how many searchers visited your site from the results. Click-through rate is clicks divided by impressions. A page with many impressions but few clicks usually needs a clearer title and description, or better reviews and details on your Business Profile.
Average position: where do you appear?
Average position is a useful trend, but treat it with care, because it varies with the searcher’s location and device. Watch whether it improves over weeks rather than reacting to daily changes.
Organic visits and landing pages
In your analytics tool, look at visits that came from organic search and which pages they landed on. This shows which services attract searchers, and which pages might need more attention.
Booking conversions: the number that matters most
Track how many organic visitors start and complete a booking. If your booking system runs on your own website, you can see bookings by source and page. A small rise in this number is worth more than a large rise in visits that do not book.
Local metrics from your Business Profile
- How often your profile appeared in search and maps.
- Calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile.
- Number and average of reviews over time.
Technical health
Search Console also reports pages that could not be indexed, mobile usability problems and page speed issues. Fixing these does not always raise rankings on its own, but problems here can hold everything else back.
A simple monthly routine
- Note clicks, impressions and booking conversions from organic search.
- Find two or three pages with high impressions but low clicks and improve their titles and descriptions.
- Check for new indexing errors and fix them.
- Compare with the same month last year, since bookings are seasonal.
